PPG Unveils 2025 Automotive Color Trends in Annual Global Report

PPG has released its annual automotive color report, featuring insights and trends from its global Automotive OEM Coatings color styling team. This year’s report is centered on Purple Basil, PPG’s 2025 Color of the Year, which is showcased alongside 40 curated exterior body colors, auto part stylings, and wheel finishes tailored to consumer preferences.
Purple Basil, also known as Amethyst Shadow and Acai Berry in select markets, is a deep, sophisticated hue with a balance of blue and red tones that conveys kinetic energy. The color is part of PPG’s “Kinetic” global theme, which includes four distinct palettes: Extra Celestial, Bio-Fuse, Artificial, and Earth and Archive.
“This year, we have four different views of the Color of the Year, illustrating how it can be styled for various vehicle makes, models, and regions,” said Misty Yeomans, PPG color styling manager, Americas, Automotive OEM Coatings. “For example, our China team styled Purple Basil as a muted lavender with a matte finish for luxury sedans and SUVs, while in the U.S., we developed a more vibrant, lighter version that suits sports models.”
PPG’s annual color show provides automakers with in-depth insight into consumer preferences and styling directions, helping brands plan vehicle colors years in advance.
“We believe consumers are ready for more color and personalization,” Yeomans said. “The demand for different textures, finishes, and effects continues to evolve. With our global team of color stylists and chemists, we develop palettes that reflect these shifting trends.”
