Quantum Light, an Oxford University-affiliated startup developing quantum dot-based pigments, announced it has closed a $1 million pre-seed funding round. The investment includes backing from Venrex, Oxford Seed Fund, Light Ray Ventures, I2BF Global Ventures, and a group of angel investors from Google and Meta.
The company is applying Nobel Prize-winning nanotechnology to create a new class of pigments based on quantum confinement. These quantum pigments are engineered to manipulate light at the nanoscale, offering potential applications across cosmetics, aerospace coatings, and industrial materials.
The founding team includes Olga Alexopoulou, CEO and inventor of Quantum Blue; Jason Hartlove, co-founder and Meta executive; and Alex Sifniotis, COO and global operations expert. With the funding, the company plans to scale research, grow manufacturing partnerships, and bring its first products to market.
