Covestro announced that its site in South Charleston, West Virginia, has received ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) PLUS certification. The facility produces base polyether polyols and polymer polyols used in applications such as automotive seating, mattresses, and furniture.
The certification enables Covestro to offer products made from recycled and bio-attributed raw materials and supports its strategy to produce in the region for the region. It also expands the company’s capacity to provide mass balanced products across its portfolio, including Hyperlite® CQ materials. Covestro’s CQ (Circular Intelligence) line includes products with at least 25 percent alternative raw materials derived from biomass or recycled plastics.
“This certification marks another milestone in our journey towards a circular economy and sustainable production,” said Barbara Buck, vice president and site manager of the South Charleston facility.
The company has previously achieved ISCC PLUS certification at several other U.S. sites, including Baytown, Texas; South Deerfield, Massachusetts; and Newark, Ohio. Globally, Covestro maintains ISCC PLUS certification at major sites in Germany, China, Thailand, and Belgium.
