Westlake Epoxy Partners to Expand Composite Recycling

Westlake Epoxy, a business of Westlake Corp., announced a strategic collaboration with Alpha Recyclage Composites to help scale recycling capacity for carbon fiber composite materials. The initiative aims to support Westlake’s composite customers in reducing production and end-of-life waste by advancing circular options for reusing recovered materials.
Alpha Recyclage Composites, based in Toulouse and Castelsarrasin, France, specializes in recycling carbon-fiber-reinforced composites using a patented steam pyrolysis process. The technology preserves fiber performance from materials recovered from aerospace, automotive, and wind energy applications. With support from Westlake, Alpha Recyclage is transitioning from batch to semi-continuous operation, targeting 1,000 metric tons of recycling capacity per year by 2027.
“This initiative supports Westlake's broader sustainability goals and aligns with our customers’ efforts to reduce waste and promote reuse,” said Brian Powers, vice president of Westlake Epoxy.
The companies will also explore recovery of organic components from composites, and how those materials might be reused to improve circularity. The effort complements Westlake’s EpoVIVE™ portfolio of epoxy resins containing sustainable raw materials.
