AkzoNobel Opens R&D Center

AkzoNobel Paints (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd announced the launch of a new research and development center in Nilai, Malaysia, aimed at advancing sustainable decorative paint technologies across Southeast Asia. The facility will serve as the company’s regional innovation hub and is part of a global network of approximately 70 R&D laboratories.
Equipped with automated robotic testing systems and advanced analytical tools, the center is designed to support high-throughput experimentation and faster market-relevant product development. The site will house 35 R&D professionals and is co-located with AkzoNobel’s business teams to improve collaboration and responsiveness to local needs.
The company emphasized the role of the new center in tapping local talent, accelerating innovation cycles and co-creating eco-friendly solutions. Malaysia’s growing position in the regional innovation landscape was highlighted through partnership with InvestKL.
