In August, the Wallcovering Association hosted an immersive two-day educational and networking event called TecTrac at the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) District Council 21 training center in Philadelphia. The event brought together members of the wallcovering industry and the union to showcase the precision, craftsmanship and skills required in wallcovering installation.
From interactive discussions on sustainability and products to hands-on work alongside installers, TecTrac demonstrated that wallcovering is more than a finishing touch—it shapes the character of a space. For IUPAT, quality remains central to its mission. The union emphasizes that proper training ensures members deliver long-lasting, professional work.
For trainers, staff, and IUPAT members attending, the event reinforced the importance of apprenticeship programs and training centers that sit at the core of the union’s work. Manufacturers, designers, and customer service representatives experienced firsthand what wallcovering apprentices encounter during training. Participants gained practical exposure to wallcovering techniques under the guidance of IUPAT trainers and members, learning through touch, repetition and collaboration.
The event underscored that professionalism and quality in wallcovering are non-negotiable and can only be achieved through continuous training, mentorship, and cooperation between manufacturers, designers and installers.
A key takeaway from TecTrac 2025 was the collaboration between participants who addressed industry challenges such as growing demand and tighter timelines while exploring solutions together. The event also highlighted the positive impact each attendee makes in advancing the trade.
For IUPAT, TecTrac 2025 provided an opportunity to demonstrate leadership in elevating standards across the wallcovering industry. The event reinforced how the professionalism of trained installers builds trust with end users—a point of pride for IUPAT members and a reflection of their dedication to the craft.
As new materials, sustainable products, and shifting customer expectations reshape the industry, TecTrac highlighted the need for adaptability without compromising standards. The event reminded attendees that progress in wallcovering depends on the strength and commitment of its people, from designers to installers. Attendees left with renewed enthusiasm for their craft, a deeper understanding of collaboration, and a shared commitment to doing the job right—with skill and pride.
