BASF Coatings has commissioned a state-of-the-art production plant for automotive OEM coatings at its Muenster site in Germany. The new facility is designed to produce high-runner products, the colors that represent the majority of current market demand, and support consistent product quality and improved production efficiency.

The investment is a strategic milestone for BASF Coatings, reinforcing its long-term competitiveness in the high-volume coatings segment. Advanced automation in the facility enables more sustainable operations and strengthens process stability and reliability.

The new plant marks one of the most transformative investments for BASF Coatings in the past five years. From the initial conceptual studies in 2019 through two and a half years of construction to the start of regular production, the project has been shaped by the expertise of BASF Coatings teams.

The plant is designed to optimize energy consumption and reduce CO₂ emissions. The Muenster site has operated on 100% renewable wind energy since 2022, saving about 4,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year. It now joins additional BASF Coatings locations across Europe, Asia Pacific, and North America that run entirely on renewable electricity.
