A Century In, A Legacy Brand Looks Ahead

PCI Magazine recently interviewed California Paints on a Coat It! Podcast episode.
California Paints is marking its 100-year anniversary in 2026, highlighting a century of coatings innovation, manufacturing and color development.
Founded in 1926 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the company evolved from its origins in stucco and plaster products to become an early adopter of acrylic latex coatings in the 1950s. The company expanded its portfolio through acquisitions and introduced products including exterior latex stains and wood care systems.
California Paints also advanced color technology by introducing computerized color matching at the dealer level and later established a manufacturing and distribution facility in Andover, Massachusetts, which supports its operations today.
“For 100 years, our name stood for craftsmanship, quality and commitment to beautiful colors that can bring inspiration to any space,” said Daniele Doerge, marketing manager, California Paints. “As we celebrate this milestone, we’re excited by the opportunity to use this foundation and continue evolving and innovating to meet the needs of our current and next generation customers.”
Now part of Innovative Chemical Products Group, the brand continues to develop coatings for residential and commercial applications.
