Adhesive Training Program Targets Early Career Talent

A “factory of the future” program at Eastern Michigan University is training mechanical engineering students in adhesive-dispensing technology, with early results showing strong student participation and job placement outcomes.
Developed in collaboration with Coherix, the program focuses on precision manufacturing applications, including automation, computer vision and adaptive process control systems used in automotive and consumer electronics production.
Since launching in 2023, more than 60% of senior mechanical engineering students have participated, and more than 20 students have received job offers prior to graduation. The program includes hands-on training with industrial robots and adhesive-dispensing systems, supported by a virtual reality laboratory on campus.
Program leaders said the initiative is designed to address a shortage of engineers with experience in adhesives and dispensing technologies while preparing students for roles in advanced manufacturing environments.
