Syensqo, Shell Partner on Lower-Carbon Ethylene Oxide Solutions

Syensqo and Shell Chemicals Europe B.V. announced a collaboration to supply mass-balanced, lower-carbon ethylene oxide solutions for industrial and agricultural applications.
The companies said the solutions are based on lower-carbon feedstocks and are designed to reduce product carbon footprint while maintaining performance, quality and supply reliability. The materials are verified under the ISCC Carbon Footprint Certification and are intended to function as drop-in alternatives that do not require reformulation.
According to the companies, the approach uses carbon capture utilization credits within a mass-balance framework to reduce the carbon footprint of feedstocks compared to conventional ethylene oxide. The overall reduction in product carbon footprint depends on the proportion of lower-carbon material used in the final formulation.
“Customers are under increasing pressure to reduce the carbon footprint of their products without compromising performance or supply reliability,” said Chloé Masselon. “These solutions offer a practical way to decarbonize formulations while meeting regulatory and market expectations.”
The initiative supports Syensqo’s broader target to reduce Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions across key categories by 2030 and reflects ongoing efforts to address emissions across the value chain.
