The Association for Materials Protection and Performance and the Advanced Carbons Council have entered into a three-year memorandum of understanding focused on advanced carbon materials and materials protection.
The collaboration will initially concentrate on carbon-enhanced coatings, with the organizations planning work involving technical education, research, publications and potential coordination among technical committees and standards activities.
The groups said emerging carbon materials could have applications in coatings, infrastructure and energy technologies, but their adoption requires greater understanding of formulation, evaluation and performance under demanding service conditions.
The first initiative under the agreement is an AMPP Forefront Series webcast scheduled for Sept. 10. The program will examine graphene, graphene derivatives and carbon nanotubes as additives for protective coatings.
Future cooperation could include webinars, meetings, workshops, research initiatives and industry publications. The organizations said research activity could involve industry surveys, university or consortium projects and dissemination of technical findings.
The memorandum became effective July 6 and will remain in effect for three years. AMPP publicly announced the partnership Aug. 11.
