Nippon Paint Marine, Lloyd’s Register to Assess Hull Coating Performance

Nippon Paint Marine and Lloyd’s Register Advisory have signed a technical collaboration agreement to assess the long-term in-service speed-loss performance of Nippon Paint Marine’s FASTAR and AQUATERRAS hull coatings.
The independent evaluation will cover container carriers, bulk carriers, tankers, very large crude carriers, pure car carriers and cruise vessels. Lloyd’s Register Advisory will combine data sources that can include noon reports, high-frequency vessel data, AIS tracking and metocean data.
The work will follow the ISO 19030 performance-measurement standard and is intended to help isolate environmental effects from hull-coating performance over the assessment period.
Nippon Paint Marine said AQUATERRAS is a biocide-free fouling-protection coating, while FASTAR is a low-friction, self-polishing antifouling coating within the company’s HydroSmoothXT™ range.
