Nippon Paint Marine Logs 2,557 Coated Vessels on RightShip

Need to Know

  • RightShip now includes 2,557 vessels using Nippon Paint Marine hull coating technologies.
  • One bulk carrier recorded a 2.5% reduction in required propulsion power and moved from a C to a B+ GHG rating.
  • An ore carrier recorded a 5.94% reduction in required propulsion power following the application of FASTAR XI.

Nippon Paint Marine announced that 2,557 vessels using its hull coating technologies have been registered on the RightShip platform, which assesses how technologies and innovations contribute to safer and more sustainable shipping.

Customer vessels listed on the platform use coatings including the biocide-free AQUATERRAS system and the FASTAR and A-LF Sea product lines. The registrations allow shipowners and operators to examine vessel-specific performance data rather than relying only on generalized product claims.

One example is an 81,000-deadweight-ton bulk carrier coated with FASTAR XI. RightShip data showed a 2.5% reduction in required propulsion power across the vessel’s operating profile, contributing to an improvement in its GHG rating from C to B+.

A 324,000-deadweight-ton ore carrier recorded a 5.94% reduction in required propulsion power following the application of FASTAR XI, supporting an A+ GHG rating. The vessel-specific results should not be interpreted as a guarantee of identical performance across all ships, operating profiles or service conditions.

The registrations are part of Nippon Paint Marine’s strategic partnership with RightShip’s Zero Harm Innovation Partners Program. The collaboration focuses on data sharing, performance validation, vessel efficiency and transparent sustainability reporting.

Wah Kwong Maritime, a Nippon Paint Marine customer for 20 years, now has five vessels using the company’s hull coatings on the RightShip platform. The operator said the coatings helped maintain hull efficiency, reduce fuel consumption and support improvements in fleet GHG ratings.

Read the full Nippon Paint Marine performance update.

The registrations provide readers following marine coatings with vessel-level data connecting hull condition, propulsion requirements and environmental performance.
