Jotun has launched Jotachar 1709 XT, an epoxy intumescent coating designed for hydrocarbon fire protection in onshore oil and gas construction projects.
The company said the product was developed for projects requiring UL 1709 certification and expands Jotun’s Jotachar passive fire protection range.
Jotachar 1709 XT is designed for application across demanding job-site conditions. Jotun said the product supports fast thickness build-up and has a 15-20 min workability window, including at steelwork temperatures up to 50 °C.
The company said the coating is intended to support efficient installation, lower material consumption and project cost savings. Jotun also said the product has undergone third-party testing related to long-term durability, adhesion, char stability and mechanical integrity.
Jotachar 1709 XT was introduced at ADIPEC 2025.
