Hempel Names Former Board Leader Group President and CEO

Hempel has appointed Eric Alström as group president and CEO, effective Aug. 1, 2026.
Alström succeeds Michael Hansen, who left the company in June. During the transition, Peter la Cour Gormsen, executive vice president and chief financial officer, and Emilie Barriau, executive vice president and chief technology officer, jointly led Hempel on an interim basis.
Alström most recently served as president of Danfoss Power Solutions. Hempel said he brings more than 30 years of international executive leadership experience across industrial technology, automotive and manufacturing.
He also knows Hempel through his previous service on the company’s Board of Directors, including as vice chair from 2017 to 2024.
“Eric is an experienced international business leader with a strong track record of driving growth, transformation and innovation in global industrial businesses,” said Richard Sand, chair of Hempel’s Board of Directors. “He also knows Hempel well through his previous service on our Board.”
Hempel supplies coatings for the decorative, marine, infrastructure and energy markets.
