HDI derivatives are used in applications including automotive coatings, protective infrastructure coatings, marine coatings, wood furniture, electronics and other industrial applications.

The Freeport and Rayong facilities complement Covestro’s existing HDI derivatives production network in Europe, Asia and North America. The company said the added capacity will support its ability to respond to customer demand and pursue growth in high-performance and more sustainable coatings and adhesives applications.

Covestro said the transaction follows its earlier acquisition of DSM’s Resins & Functional Materials business, as well as ongoing organic-growth investments supporting its coatings and adhesives business.
