David M. Bastidas, Ph.D., an AMPP fellow and business development manager for the energy sector, has been named an event chair for the 3rd International Online Conference on Corrosion and Materials Degradation, scheduled for June 30 through July 2.
The conference will bring together researchers and engineers to discuss corrosion science, materials degradation, monitoring, mitigation and emerging technologies. Bastidas will help guide the program and chair a technical session on electrochemical corrosion mechanisms at the interface, including localized corrosion, passivity and advanced characterization techniques.
The event will also honor the late Professor Digby Macdonald, whose work in corrosion science and electrochemistry included development of the Point Defect Model.
“Collaboration like this is essential if we’re going to solve the complex materials challenges facing industries today,” Bastidas said.
Bastidas joined AMPP in June and focuses on energy-sector relationships, technical collaboration and workforce development. He also serves as an honorary professor at Deakin University in Australia and has authored more than 150 scientific publications.
