allnex Targets Automotive Coatings Growth With APAC Expansion

allnex plans to establish its first Asia-Pacific production capacity for sag control agent resins at its manufacturing site in Rayong, Thailand.
The new operation is scheduled to begin production in January 2028. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, with dedicated reactors producing SCA resins for coatings applied to plastic automotive components and metal vehicle bodies.
Sag control agent technology is used in automotive OEM coatings to control flow and sagging while supporting the appearance of premium, high-gloss clearcoats. allnex said the regional investment will strengthen supply reliability, shorten lead times and improve access to technical support for customers across Asia-Pacific.
The company has produced its SCA resins exclusively at its Bergen op Zoom facility in the Netherlands since developing the technology approximately four decades ago. According to allnex, Asia-Pacific has since become the largest global market for the technology, driven by automotive production growth and demand for improved coating appearance.
“This strategic capacity investment for a unique technology is driven by our commitment to our customers and their growth ambitions in Asia-Pacific,” said Ruben Mannien, senior executive vice president, APAC. “By localizing SCA production in Thailand, we are responding directly to customer needs for greater supply security, shorter lead times and faster access to innovation.”
allnex selected the Rayong location following an evaluation of multiple sites. The company cited its existing infrastructure, technical capabilities and proximity to automotive manufacturing centers in China, India, Korea and Southeast Asia.
The facility will also support next-generation SCA technologies for high-solid, low-bake and more sustainable clearcoat systems. These technologies are intended to improve productivity and reduce the energy required during coating application and curing.
