Aqueous Dispersant Targets Universal Colorant Compatibility

Lubrizol introduced Solsperse W40 Hyperdispersant, a 100% active, APE-free aqueous dispersant for water-based coatings and universal colorants. The additive is designed to disperse organic and inorganic pigments, including in systems with high filler levels, while supporting color development, strength and long-term stability.
Compatibility with oil-based alkyd paints allows colorants formulated with the product to be used in both waterborne and solvent-containing base paints. It may also be added after initial formulation to improve color acceptance between water-based colorants and different base-paint chemistries.
Lubrizol positions the ultralow-VOC dispersant for water-based architectural and industrial coatings. Solsperse W40 is available globally.
Compatibility across aqueous colorants and alkyd base paints may reduce the need for separate tinting systems, connecting the product to PCI’s coverage of pigment dispersion and universal-colorant formulation.
