Ontario Reporting Deadline Passes for Paint and Coatings Producers
The Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority’s 2026 reporting deadline for Ontario’s Hazardous and Special Products program was July 31.
The program covers paints and coatings, solvents, pesticides, automotive materials and other products regulated under Ontario’s extended producer responsibility framework. Paint and coatings producers were required to submit an annual supply report covering materials supplied in Ontario during 2025 and pay the applicable 2026 program fee.
Producers, or producer responsibility organizations reporting on their behalf, were also required to submit annual performance information covering collection, material recovery, management and promotion and education activities. Producers remain responsible for ensuring reports submitted on their behalf are completed by the deadline.
Large producers of paints and coatings and other designated Category A and Category B materials were additionally required to submit a supply data verification report completed in accordance with RPRA’s updated verification and audit procedure. Small producers were not required to submit that verification report but may be subject to inspections.
RPRA delayed the separate performance audit reporting requirement for 2026 while it finalizes related registry procedures. A new deadline will be established following consultation with producer responsibility organizations.
The authority said late reports and false or misleading submissions may result in compliance orders or administrative penalty orders.
