Dürr Wins Final Assembly Project for Volvo EV Plant

Dürr will supply highly automated final assembly systems for Volvo Cars’ new all-electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Košice, Slovakia.
The plant is scheduled to begin production in 2027 and is designed for maximum annual output of 250,000 vehicles.
Dürr will provide turnkey planning and implementation across conveyor, vehicle-fluid filling and end-of-line testing systems. The project uses the supplier’s NEXT.assembly concept, which combines consulting and modular production technologies within an integrated final assembly system.
More than 3 kilometers of conveyor equipment will move vehicle bodies and doors through the facility. The system will include electric monorails, skillet platforms and modular chain conveyors.
The filling equipment is being designed to accommodate future production requirements, including low-conductivity coolants used in electric vehicles and next-generation air-conditioning refrigerants associated with developing European requirements.
End-of-line equipment will include Dürr’s x-wheel system for chassis measurement and adjustment and its x-light camera-based system for measuring and setting headlamps. The x-wheel installation will use an x-3Dsurface noncontact sensor for area-based measurements across different tire and body configurations.
The announcement covers final assembly rather than Volvo’s paint shop. It should not be interpreted as an award for coating application, pretreatment or curing equipment.
The project is relevant to PCI readers following manufacturing equipment, automation and fluid-handling technologies used in automotive production.
