Axalta Names 2027 Global Automotive Color of the Year

Axalta Coating Systems has named Redefined, a saturated and luminous ruby red, its 2027 Global Automotive Color of the Year.
The company unveiled the color at Automechanika Frankfurt. Redefined catches and reflects light with a subtle sparkle intended to create depth, dimension and a jewel-like appearance on vehicle surfaces.
“Redefined represents where we see automotive color going, expressive and individual, but still refined and timeless,” said Matthew Boland, vice president of global refinish technology at Axalta.
The color provides a contemporary interpretation of red, combining the emotional and recognizable qualities associated with the color family with newer pigment, effect and color-science capabilities.
Redefined also returns to the color that launched Axalta’s Global Automotive Color of the Year program 13 years ago with Radiant Red. Axalta said advances in pigments and effect technologies have allowed red finishes to become richer and more dimensional while remaining manufacturable for vehicle producers.
The company’s global color specialists use color science, consumer research and automotive and design trends to anticipate color direction and translate those findings into coatings suitable for vehicle manufacturing.
