Graphene Additive Shows 25% Lower Scribe Creep in Solventborne Epoxy Test

Sparc Technologies reported a 25% reduction in scribe creep in cyclic corrosion testing of a solventborne two-component epoxy coating containing HydroGraph’s FGA-1 Fractal Graphene.
The test used garnet-blasted hot-rolled steel panels with coating thickness of approximately 500 µm. After 2,688 hours of testing using procedures based on ISO 12944, Sparc reported average scribe creep of 5.13 mm for the graphene-containing coating compared with 6.80 mm for the control.
The work was conducted in Sparc’s laboratory and has not been independently verified.
Sparc said testing is continuing to 4,200 hours, with results expected in November. The companies are evaluating HydroGraph graphene for Sparc’s ecosparc additive platform under a previously announced letter of intent.
Long-duration corrosion testing is an important step in determining whether graphene additives can deliver practical performance gains in protective coating systems. Explore more PCI coverage of corrosion-control coatings.
