Australia Opens Review of Olin-Huntsman Merger

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has opened its review of the proposed Olin Corp.-Huntsman Corp. combination, adding another regulatory milestone to the companies' pending merger.
The ACCC lists the transaction as “under assessment,” with an effective notification date of Oct. 1, 2026. The regulator opened consultation Oct. 2 and is accepting comments through Oct. 9. Its Phase 1 determination period is currently scheduled to conclude Nov. 13.
In Australia, Olin supplies products including caustic soda, epoxy resins and curing agents through imports. Huntsman's Australian activities include polyurethane systems manufactured at Deer Park, Victoria, along with imported ethyleneamines, polyetheramines, epoxy resins and curing agents. Those overlaps make the Australian review particularly relevant to coatings, adhesives and other formulated-material markets.
The review follows other transaction milestones, including expiration of the U.S. Hart-Scott-Rodino antitrust waiting period in September.

Olin and Huntsman are significant suppliers of epoxy, curing-agent, amine and polyurethane chemistries used throughout coatings and CASE markets. The Australian review is one of the remaining regulatory processes worth following as the combination moves toward closing.
