Microdosing Unit Applies Small Adhesive Volumes Without Refill Interruptions

Dürr expanded its dispensing technology portfolio with the EcoMeter XS, a compact microdosing unit for automated application of small quantities of adhesives, sealants and other high-viscosity materials.

Applications include vehicle battery assembly, power electronics, magnet bonding in electric motors, grease and seal application, and small-volume potting. The system addresses processes in which the required quantity is below the practical range of conventional dosing equipment.

One example is spot application on round battery cells, where the material creates a thermal bridge between a cell and the cooling unit. "One tenth of a cubic centimeter, applied to the front surface of the cell, is enough to establish thermal contact," said Sebastian Jochum, product manager for dispensing technology at Dürr.

The EcoMeter XS continuously meters and applies material, eliminating refill interruptions associated with piston dosing systems. It supports flow rates from 0.00005 to 1 cm³/s and can receive material from cartridges or hobbocks.

Depending on configuration, the unit weighs 0.8-1.6 kg. Its low weight allows mounting on conventional robots, axis gantries and robots with limited payload capacity. A centralized dosing and process control system combines operating functions.

The modular design accommodates different application quantities, material viscosities and component geometries, allowing configurations to be adapted as process requirements change.

Alongside the EcoShot Meter and EcoMeter SP piston dosing systems, the EcoMeter XS extends Dürr's portfolio for one- and two-component adhesives and sealants from micro-quantity applications to continuous, high-volume dispensing.
