Dörken’s coatings operations contribute professional-trade brands, pigment-paste technology, industrial and specialty coatings, application expertise and internal research and development capabilities. JWO adds DIY-market experience, private-label products and toll-manufacturing capacity.

The companies said the two organizations will continue operating independently, with their own management teams and structures developed for their respective customers and markets.

Development and marketing of professional coatings and production of pigment pastes will remain at Dörken’s competence center in Herdecke. Architectural-paint production will continue at JWO’s facility in Coesfeld. 

Dörken said JWO also will expand its role as a manufacturing and logistics platform, making its production capabilities available to a broader group of companies in the paint and coatings industry.

Founded in 1948, JWO manufactures paints and coatings for retail and industrial customers. Its Coesfeld operation has annual production capacity of more than 200 million liters and includes internal research and development capabilities focused on product and process improvement. 

The transaction gives Dörken access to a large-scale manufacturing platform while preserving JWO’s existing position in retail, private-label and contract-manufacturing markets.

The acquisition connects professional coatings, architectural paints, pigment-paste technology, private-label production and contract manufacturing within one ownership group. That combination could affect European production capacity, retailer programs, formulation support and manufacturing options available to other coatings suppliers.
