Nordson Acquires Sensor Manufacturer to Expand Factory Automation Portfolio

Nordson Corp. has acquired Contrinex, a Switzerland-based manufacturer of high-performance sensors for factory automation.
Contrinex is headquartered in Corminboeuf, Switzerland, and generates approximately $50 million in annual revenue. The company employs nearly 500 people.
Its portfolio includes inductive position sensors, photoelectric position sensors and smart measurement sensors with integrated logic. Nordson said the technologies complement its existing test and inspection portfolio, particularly in harsh-environment applications and miniature precision positioning.
Contrinex will become part of Nordson's Advanced Technology Solutions segment.
Srini Subramanian, executive vice president of Nordson Advanced Technology Solutions, said the acquisition supports Nordson's focus on factory automation and control technologies. Nordson also plans to apply its NBS Next operating framework to Contrinex and expand the sensor company's products through Nordson's global customer base.
Nordson serves a range of industrial applications that include liquid and powder coating, dispensing, testing, inspection, curing and process control.
Sensors and automation increasingly connect coating application equipment with process control, inspection and manufacturing data. The acquisition expands a major coatings-equipment supplier's capabilities in the same smart-manufacturing technologies followed through PCI's Paint and Coating Equipment coverage.
