RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. - Reichhold, Inc., announced that it will convert some of its reactor capacity in the company's Newark, N.J., plant away from coatings products to the production of unsaturated polyester resins for composites applications.

"Considering the over-capacity in the alkyd resins market for coatings and the more favorable economics of the unsaturated polyester business, it makes sense to move forward with this capital investment as quickly as possible," said Senior Vice President, Global Coatings, Rodney Biddle.

Biddle explained that the partial capacity shift in Newark will have no effect on Reichhold's current alkyds customers. Reichhold's Newark facility is expected to begin production of polyester resins for composites in less than 90 days.
