EVANSVILLE, IN — Red Spot Paint & Varnish Co. Inc. and Mays Chemical Co. of Indianapolis announced the launch of a new joint venture, Mays+Red Spot Coatings LLC, that will handle distribution, customer-service, sales, and technical support activities for product-finishing customers in North America.

Mays Chemical is a major chemical distributor that supplies fluid-management services and chemicals to various industries, including automotive, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, pulp and paper, and electronics. Damon Wilson, director of Sales for Mays Chemical, has been named president and general manager of Mays+Red Spot. Dave Edwards was appointed to head technical sales and marketing for the new company.

Red Spot President Charles D. Storms said the new company “offers an outstanding new opportunity for industrial finishers to utilize Red Spot approved coatings, while satisfying supplier diversity goals and enhancing economic development.” Red Spot, based in Evansville, IN, is a major producer of high-performance coatings for plastics. Red Spot said the new venture company combines Mays’ expertise in chemical distribution and supply-chain management with Red Spot’s OEM products, research and development, technical-support, and manufacturing capabilities.

Mays’ operations include a 165,000-square-foot automated warehousing and distribution center in Indianapolis and other distribution sites in Detroit, Chicago, Puerto Rico, and Oakville, Ontario. Red Spot also operates an Application Center in Plymouth, MI, and a second manufacturing facility in Westland, MI.
