PPG Vice President and Brandt Inc. Executive

Benjamin R. Fisher Jr., 50; was a PPG Vice President

PITTSBURGH - Benjamin R. Fisher Jr., PPG Industries Inc. vice president of Corporate Marketing and Communications, died Sept. 9 of an apparent heart attack. He was 50.

A Pittsburgh native, Mr. Fisher joined PPG as director of Corporate Marketing in 1995. He was elected vice president in December 2000.

Mr. Fisher previously was vice president, Business Development, at H.J. Heinz Co., and held a series of other management positions after joining the company in 1977.

Mr. Fisher graduated cum laude with a degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania, and also earned a master's degree in business administration from the university's Wharton School.

Mr. Fisher is survived by his wife, Linda, and four children. Mr. Fisher's grandfather, Chester G. Fisher, was the founder of Fisher Scientific Co.

George C. Brandt Jr., 82; was Brandt Inc. Executive

ST. PAUL, MN - George C. Brandt Jr., who held several senior executive positions with George C. Brandt Inc. during a span of more than 40 years, died Sept. 4 in Rochester, MN, from complications of diabetes. He was 82.

Mr. Brandt was a graduate of the University of Minnesota and was an aviator in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from George C. Brandt Inc., a distributor of raw materials to the coatings and related industries, in the 1980s.

Mr. Brandt was an avid skier, and was "devoted to conservation and ecology and to his Norwegian heritage," friends and family said.

Mr. Brandt is survived by three sons, a daughter, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
