BIRMINGHAM, MI -- The Magni Group, a manufacturer of coatings for fastener, brake and fuels systems, has acquired Lackfabrik Dr. Schmid, a manufacturer of specialty and industrial coatings based in Schorndorf, Germany. The acquired company will operate as a subsidiary of Magni Europe, Magni Group said.

Lackfabrik Dr. Schmid manufactures a number of unique specialty and industrial coatings sold in Europe, India, Brazil, New Zealand, and Turkey, Magni Group said. Doug Paul, vice president of Marketing for Magni Group, said the acquisition will enhance the company’s supply capabilities in Europe by adding manufacturing operations in Germany.

Magni Group, based in Birmingham, MI, operates research and manufacturing sites in Detroit and Independence, KY, and metal-finishing plants in Troy, MI, and Rexdale, Ontario. Magni Europe is based in Saint-Ouen, France, and operates a research and development facility there. The company, started in 1974, is a producer of anticorrosion coatings, and also manufactures coatings designed to provide lubricity and conductivity to improve performance. Key end-use markets include coatings for automotive parts and coil coatings, the company says.
