The Chemicals Business Area of Germany-based Evonik Industries AG has expanded the silica capacity of its joint venture, Egesil AS, in Adapazari, near Izmit, Turkey, with a new capacity of 40,000 tons per year.

ESSEN, Germany – The Chemicals Business Area of Germany-based Evonik Industries AG has expanded the silica capacity of its joint venture, Egesil AS, in Adapazari, near Izmit, Turkey. With the new capacity of 40,000 tons per year, Evonik Industries is keeping pace with the growth in demand for tire silica in Europe. Expansion involved the addition of a new dryer, which commenced operation in the second half of 2007.
 
Evonik Industries AG’s Coatings & Additives Business Unit is reorganizing its colorants business to position itself in the international market. Under a matrix model, market responsibility will be exercised at the local level, while central marketing, technology and operation functions will be globally aligned.
 
The new Coatings & Additives Business Unit comprises five different business lines, including Adhesive Resins & Colorants, to which the Colorants business belongs. The business unit offers a wide range of raw materials for the coatings and adhesives industries. New regional contacts in the area of colorants are John Kennedy (the Americas), Heinz-Günter Lux (Europe), Dominic Parsonson (greater China) and John Dry (AustralAsia). Global responsibility for central functions is held by Martin Welp (global marketing), Brij Mohal (global technical) and Matthias Creutz (global operations).
