CARY, NC – UCAR Emulsion Systems and Monomers recently introduced two new products – UCAR™ Flex Latex 3186 and UCAR™ Flex Latex 187 – for elastomeric roof and wall coatings. Elastomeric coatings made with these products provide excellent dirt pickup resistance and can be formulated to meet the Cool Roof Rating Council’s product rating requirements for reflectance and emittance at VOC levels below 50 grams per liter.
“These products were developed specifically to meet the increased performance needed in modern elastomeric wall and roof coatings,” said Eric Kaiser, Latex Marketing Director. “Formulators came to us looking to achieve attributes such as improved dirt pickup resistance, weatherability and elongation in low-VOC elastomeric coatings. These new products are our response.”
UCAR Flex Latex 187 is a high-solids, all-acrylic binder designed for high-performance elastomeric roof and wall coatings. With its inherent dirt pickup resistance, this polymer can be formulated to meet the requirements of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency/Department of Energy’s Energy Star program, as well as other federal, state and private regulating bodies. Properly formulated, this binder is capable of meeting the requirements of ASTM D-6083 Standard Specification for Liquid Applied Acrylic Coating Used in Roofing.
UCAR Flex Latex 3186 is a styrene-acrylic binder designed for cost-effective elastomeric roof and wall coatings, offering a good balance of properties such as dirt pickup resistance, weatherability, tensile and elongation attributes, water resistance, and caustic resistance.
