CARY, NC – UCAR Emulsion Systems and Monomers is introducing its EnVia program, a new initiative designed to help formulators of coatings, adhesives, sealants and construction products find the raw materials they need to meet and exceed their sustainable formulating targets.

“Products that carry the EnVia brand must pass a rigorous certification program to ensure they are suitable for use in sustainable formulations,” said Eric Kaiser, Latex Marketing Director. “Customers can then focus on selecting products with the performance and processing benefits they need and have confidence that the product will comply with the latest environmental standards.”

UCAR Emulsion Systems and Monomers has identified four criteria for the program. In order to qualify, products must help companies reduce air pollution emissions, meet VOC regulatory targets, minimize environmental impact and enable formulation of high-performance finished products. Specific requirements include: no added alkyl phenol ethoxylate (APEO) surfactants; no added formaldehyde or formaldehyde donors; total latex VOC less than five grams per liter; below regulatory reporting limits of carcinogens, reproductive toxins and ozone-depleting compounds; low residual monomer levels (less than 500 ppm total residual monomer); Green Seal™ compliance (less than 0.01 percent per component); minimal use of substances identified under California Prop 65 (use of all such substances will be clearly documented); less than 0.1 percent hazardous air pollutants (HAPS); and no added phthalates, triphenyl or tributyl tins, 1,2 – dichlorobenzene.
