Success breeds success. That’s whyFinishing Todayis in the midst of a website redesign. Nearly two years ago we revamped and repositioned our magazine to meet the information needs of coatings professionals, and now we’re updating our website to achieve the same purpose.
Findings from a recent Reader Preference Study* to examine the usage of business-to-business publications serving the coatings/finishing industry show that you, our readers, believe our “in print” efforts have been successful.
Among the print-related questions posed by the survey:Which one coating and/or finishing magazine is most useful to you in your work?Of the five magazines listed as possible responses,Finishing Todayfinished first with 45% of the vote, while its nearest competitor finished with 22%.
When asked -If you had time to read only one coatings and/or finishing magazine, which one magazine would you choose?- 42% of the respondents citedFinishing Today. Our nearest competitor, 20%.
And when the same readers were asked -To reach industry professionals like yourself, in which one coatings and/or finishing magazine would you suggest a company primarily run its ads?- 40% saidFinishing Today. Our nearest competitor, 21%.
Now for the “e-side” ofFinishing Today. Your input, according to the study, shows us that we’re on the right track. When asked -Which one coatings and/or finishing website is most useful to you in your work?- www.finishingtodaymag.com received 47% of the vote. Our nearest competitor, 19%.
But we want to do more, and we are. In the weeks ahead we will be launching a new look that we believe will make it simpler and more enjoyable for you to “navigate” and, we hope, provide you with a reason to visit us online more often and stay longer.

Recently I had a chance to meet with some of you who attended the 2008 NASF (National Association of Surface Finishers) Washington Forum. My “take-away” was a greater appreciation for the ever-changing regulatory climate impacting the surface finishing industry globally (more on this in coming issues).
If you weren’t in Washington but are planning to be in Indianapolis this month for the SUR/FIN show, please look for me. I’d love to hear your ideas for articles, columns, special sections, webinars, etc. And if you would like to schedule a visit, please e-mail or call me in advance.
See you in Indy.
Cheers!
