HELSINKI, Finland- Kemira was recently awarded the Grand Slam Award by the Association of American Railroads. The criteria for receiving this award include being recognized by at least four class 1 railroads and having zero non-accidental releases during a calendar year. Such releases can occur during loading or off-loading of products or in-transit due to improperly secured railcars. The award recognizes Kemira’s commitment to safety and railcar management best practices.

In 2011, Kemira’s North American operations had over 8300 shipments of hazardous materials with zero non-accidental releases. Leading up to the receipt of the Grand Slam Award, Kemira’s North American operations received all five of the railway safety awards for the 2011 shipment year, including: the Chemical Safety Excellence Award, the CN Safe Handling Award, the UP Pinnacle Safety Award, the NS Thoroughbred Safety Award, and the BNSF Safety Award.
