BASF Coatings, a division of BASF SE, develops, produces and markets automotive OEM and refinish coatings, decorative paints, and applied surface treatments for metal, plastic and glass substrates in a wide range of industries. BASF operates a collaborative network of sites in Europe, North America, South America and Asia-Pacific. Part of BASF’s Functional Materials & Solutions segment, BASF Coatings achieved sales of approximately $4.2 billion in 2019.

Notes: In 2019, the Surface Treatment global business unit of BASF’s Coatings division, operating under the Chemetall brand, inaugurated a new laboratory and office building in Langelsheim, Germany, and started construction of a surface treatment site in the Dushan Port Economic Development Zone of Pinghu, Zhejiang Province, China. The new site is expected to start operation in the first quarter of 2021. In December 2019, BASF announced it is constructing a new facility for automotive refinish coatings at its site in Jiangmen, Guangdong Province, in South China. Start of production is planned for the first half of 2022. The company also announced plans for a plant producing coating foils to be started on the company’s site in Münster, Germany. In May of this year, BASF and DiDi, a leading mobile transportation platform, signed a strategic cooperation agreement where BASF will provide DiDi with sustainable automotive refinish products developed at its research and production site in Jiangmen.
