The Canadian Coatings Association announced the appointment of Dave Carey as its new president and CEO, effective June 2, 2025. He will succeed Gary LeRoux, who is retiring after 14 years of service and will remain involved in an advisory capacity during the leadership transition.
Carey brings a strong background in government relations, most recently serving as vice president, government and industry relations, for the Canadian Canola Growers Association. In that role, he led advocacy efforts on behalf of Canada’s $40 billion canola sector and engaged with federal officials on regulatory and legislative matters.
“I am looking forward to joining the Canadian Coatings Association to add value to the ongoing work on many regulatory files impacting member companies producing thousands of formulated products Canadians use and rely on every day,” said Carey.
Darrin Noble, chair of the Canadian Coatings Association and president and COO of Cloverdale Paint, noted that Carey’s appointment followed an extensive search. “The board of directors determined that Dave had the exact credentials the association required to build on its success and to enhance a strong agenda for the benefit of members,” said Noble.
Over the past decade, the association has focused on regulatory issues affecting the coatings sector while supporting a workforce of more than 125,000 Canadians. During LeRoux’s tenure, the association expanded digital regulatory management tools, launched online CoatingsTech training, increased membership, and doubled its staff.
