PPG Celebrates 10 Years of Colorful Communities with Restoration in Italy

PPG completed a Colorful Communities project to restore the Circolo di Santa Croce, a social and youth center in Borgomanero, Italy. The transformation is one of 10 flagship projects marking the 10th anniversary of the company’s global Colorful Communities program.
The restoration brought together about 100 PPG employees, family members and volunteers who helped renovate the facility, creating a safe and welcoming environment for more than 2,000 local residents. PPG provided a €120,000 grant to the Municipality of Borgomanero, which included 580 gallons (2,200 liters) of Sigma Coatings products. An external thermal insulation composite system using SigmaIsol expanded polystyrene was also professionally installed.
“The Colorful Communities project was so emotional, with so many people coming together to take care of the public space, creating new social and community value through color,” said Elisa Lucia Zanetta, councilor for public works for the City of Borgomanero. “I sincerely thank PPG for believing in and investing in our area.”
Volunteers applied Sigma Coatings Façade Top-Coat Self-Clean paint with patented NPS nanotechnology, creating a self-cleaning surface that protects against dirt, smog and algae. They also used Sigma Coatings Contour Aqua PU Gloss paint, a premium waterborne enamel formulated for metal structures such as handrails. Its LTA+ resin technology ensures a hard, scratch-resistant finish that resists grease and dirt, improving long-term durability in public areas.
The project also featured street art murals created in collaboration with the Graphic Days collective. Under the theme “Forms of Care, Colours of Change,” the artwork celebrates diversity, environmental balance and intergenerational responsibility.
“As a company, we believe color is a powerful tool for creating change,” said Silla Giusti, PPG general manager for Italy and Iberia, Architectural Coatings. “The Colorful Communities program allows us to give back in a meaningful way, combining professional skills, time and creativity.”
PPG has extended the Colorful Communities program for another 10 years and will commit an additional $10 million, bringing total investment to $25 million through 2035. In celebration of the milestone, PPG and the PPG Foundation are also awarding $1 million in grants to 100 current and past Colorful Communities partners worldwide.
Since its launch in 2015, the program has completed nearly 600 projects in more than 50 countries, positively impacting over 10 million people. Projects range from repainting classrooms to revitalizing playgrounds and hospitals, supported by PPG employee volunteers and paint donations.
