Wacker Campaign Promotes Safe Graffiti Spaces

Wacker Chemical Corporation launched an awareness campaign tied to National Graffiti Appreciation Day on October 14. Branded “Graffiti: Creating Safe Spaces, Keeping It Out of Unwanted Places,” the initiative encourages designated areas for sanctioned artwork while promoting strategies to protect public assets from vandalism. Wacker is partnering with local groups, including Ann Arbor Parks & Recreation and Pittsfield Township, to balance creative expression with community stewardship.
“Last year, as part of our CSR efforts, our Silicones Coatings Team helped restore vandalized restroom walls at Bandemer Park by applying an advanced anti-graffiti coating,” said Rachel Ufer, Wacker Chemical Corporation’s Corporate Communications Director. “Team members from our Ann Arbor Innovation Center partnered with Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation to remove graffiti and revitalize the space. The coating protects surfaces and allows easy graffiti removal using just water.”
The Department of Justice estimates U.S. communities spend about $12 billion each year on graffiti cleanup, straining municipal budgets and driving up maintenance costs across parks, bridges and transit systems. Many cities are evaluating protective coatings that allow faster, less costly removal.
“Not only is graffiti removal essential to maintaining the integrity and appearance of our public spaces, it also restores pride in our neighborhoods ensuring public spaces reflect the respect we have for our community,” said Pittsfield Township Supervisor Trish Reilly. “It takes a good community and good neighbors to work together to make a difference, and we appreciate the support of businesses like WACKER helping us find solutions.”
Wacker noted it offers training through WACKER ACADEMY and shared a brief video on its graffiti removal technology. Organizations seeking details were invited to contact the company for seminar information.
