Nouryon Expands Polymer Specialties Footprint

Nouryon announced investments in China to support demand for polymer materials and serve regional customers. At its Jiaxing site, the company completed a metal alkyls capacity expansion that will ultimately double output of triethylaluminum, a co-catalyst for polyethylene and polypropylene. The project included infrastructure upgrades such as a thermal oxidizer for emissions control and added blending and cylinder transfilling capabilities.
Nouryon said it will begin producing modified methylaluminoxane in China in 2027 to support catalysts for polyolefin elastomers used in solar applications. In 2026, the company plans to open an organic peroxides innovation center in Tianjin to provide application support and speed development.
The Jiaxing site also houses an R&D laboratory established in 2024 focused on process efficiency and new production methods for metal alkyls. Nouryon operates metal alkyl production sites in La Porte, Texas, Rotterdam, Netherlands and Jiaxing, China, with application centers in Deventer, Netherlands and Jiaxing, and transfilling and blending stations in Jiaxing, Paulínia, Brazil and Mahad, India.
Larry Ryan, president at Nouryon, said the investments aim to localize manufacturing and innovation for polymer specialties and enhance supply reliability for customers in China.
