AGC announced that its Fluon® PTFE G grade, manufactured using recycled fluorite as the raw material, completed third-party verification based on UL 2809 in November. UL 2809 is a standard for third-party verification of self-declared recycled content percentages based on ISO 14021. AGC said this is the first time UL 2809 verification has been completed for fluoropolymer PTFE resin worldwide.
According to the company, the grade is widely used in the semiconductor industry and is the first in its product lineup to complete the verification. AGC said it plans to expand the verification to other fluoropolymer products.
The company stated that fluorine products are used across industries including semiconductors and transportation equipment, and that limited reserves of natural fluorite make recycling and circulation of fluorine resources increasingly important.
AGC said it has improved the quality of recycled fluorite recovered from waste using proprietary expertise and is advancing its use in its products. The company also said it plans to pursue initiatives to reuse recycled fluorite from waste at other manufacturers’ plants in its fluorine products.
AGC stated that under its medium-term management plan, AGC plus-2026, it has identified deepening sustainability management as a key strategy tied to circularity for fluorine resources.
This verification reflects ongoing efforts tied to sustainable materials strategies and recycled-content validation across specialty chemicals and coatings supply chains.
