Indorama Ventures Supports Expansion of Guardiãs do Mar Initiative

Indorama Ventures is supporting the relaunch and expansion of the Guardiãs do Mar project, a Brazil-based initiative focused on ocean conservation, recycling and environmental education.
The program will expand activities across São Paulo, Santos and Pernambuco, with a focus on public awareness, plastic waste collection and material reuse. The initiative combines community engagement with recycling and creative applications of collected materials.
Founded by Patricia Almeida, the project aims to address ongoing challenges in plastic waste management through local action and education. Collected PET materials will be directed to industrial recycling or used in workshops that transform plastics into products such as musical instruments and art installations.
“Guardiãs do Mar was created from the urgency to rethink our relationship with the oceans. Waste does not recognize borders — it travels across the world through ocean currents,” said Patricia Almeida, founder of the Guardiãs do Mar project. “Our goal is to transform knowledge into action and demonstrate that circular solutions begin at the local level.”
“At Indorama Ventures, we believe that advancing the circular economy requires collaboration across the entire value chain and meaningful engagement with local communities,” said Hannah Martinez, head of sustainability advocacy Americas of Indorama Ventures.
Indorama Ventures said the initiative aligns with its broader sustainability efforts, including recycling programs and environmental education initiatives in Brazil.
