HydroGraph Clean Power Inc. announced it has entered into a letter of intent with Sparc Technologies to collaborate on incorporating graphene into additive technologies for protective coatings.
The agreement establishes a framework for joint testing, product development and potential commercial supply of graphene materials for Sparc’s ecosparc® additive platform. The companies indicated they aim to negotiate a definitive commercial agreement within approximately 12 months, subject to performance results.
Initial laboratory testing incorporating HydroGraph’s graphene into water-based coating systems showed a 39% to 60% reduction in scribe corrosion creep, based on ASTM D1654-08 testing. Further validation is planned using ISO 12944 cyclic corrosion testing in solvent-based systems to assess long-term performance under industry-standard conditions.
The collaboration combines Sparc’s additive platform with HydroGraph’s graphene materials, which are engineered for consistency and dispersion in industrial applications. Protective coatings remain a critical component in extending the life of steel infrastructure across energy, marine, mining and transportation sectors, where improved corrosion resistance can reduce maintenance frequency and lifecycle costs.
Sparc’s ecosparc® additives are designed as drop-in technologies for existing coating formulations. The company has ongoing evaluation programs with coatings manufacturers and end users, including infrastructure and industrial stakeholders.
The companies also indicated potential for joint commercialization and marketing activities, with a focus on accelerating adoption of graphene-enabled coatings in North America and global markets.
