IFS Coatings Reaches New GM Approval for Automotive Powder Coating

IFS Coatings has secured a General Motors materials specification approval for a powder coating developed for underhood and underbody vehicle components.
Available in several colors and textures, the coating combines dielectric and weathering properties for automotive applications. IFS said the product meets the performance requirements of the GM materials specification for underhood and underbody components.
The coating delivers dielectric strength of 57-68 kV/mm at film builds of 50-100 μm and 40-46 kV/mm at film builds of 180-200 μm.
IFS said the coating was tested for hardness, adhesion, humidity, scratch resistance, cyclic corrosion, gravelometer performance, chip resistance, chemical resistance and flammability.
“Powders with both dielectric and weathering properties are not common,” said Harvey Johnson, transportation market development manager at IFS Coatings.
