Jotun Coatings Agreement Covers 125 COSCO Newbuilds

Jotun COSCO Marine Coatings (JCMC) has signed a memorandum of cooperation with COSCO SHIPPING Bulk covering 125 newbuilding bulk carriers.
The agreement was signed June 26 during the Global Partners Conference hosted by COSCO SHIPPING (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. and COSCO Shipping (Hainan) Co., Ltd. in Boao, Hainan. It builds on the companies’ existing relationship and centers on vessel-efficiency improvements through hull-performance solutions.
Under the agreement, the vessels will be equipped with antifouling coating systems designed to reduce hull resistance, optimize fuel consumption and support lower emissions. Selected vessels also may be evaluated for Jotun’s Hull Skating Solutions, depending on operating conditions.
“This agreement represents an important milestone in our long-standing cooperation,” said Nikos Markakis, general manager of JCMC. “By continuously enhancing our hull performance solutions and services, we aim to support our customers in improving fleet efficiency and progressing their decarbonisation ambitions.”
Song Hourong, general manager of the Technology & Innovation Division at COSCO SHIPPING Bulk, said the cooperation is intended to improve the environmental performance and operational efficiency of the company’s newbuilding fleet.
The companies said the arrangement aligns with COSCO SHIPPING Bulk’s low-carbon development roadmap and their shared focus on more efficient shipping operations.
