Photoactive Resin Simplifies UV and LED Formulations

iGM Resins has introduced Photomer® SC91, a Type II photoactive resin that integrates photoinitiator functionality directly into the acrylate resin backbone.
The liquid resin enables curing under UV mercury and UV LED systems with minimal or no externally added photoinitiator. Because the photoinitiating component remains chemically bound within the polymer structure, the material is designed to provide low migration potential for sensitive applications, including indirect food-contact packaging.
The company reports no detectable extractable photoinitiator under its test conditions. Photomer SC91 has a molecular weight above 1,000 Da and is classified as a polymer.
Typical use levels range from 10% to 20% of a formulation. As a Type II system, the resin requires a synergistic amine or other hydrogen donor for optimal curing.
Recommended applications include printing inks, packaging, overprint varnishes, industrial coatings, adhesives, electronics and advanced materials.
Photomer SC91 is the first product in iGM Resins’ new Photomer SC series, which will include additional self-curable resin technologies for energy-curable formulations.
