Self-Cleaning Extrusion Coating Uses Rainfall to Maintain Façades

AkzoNobel has launched the TRINAR® SC Series, a self-cleaning extrusion coating designed to use natural rainfall to help remove dust and stains from exterior walls.
Developed for China's urban renewal market, the coating is intended for high-end buildings with complex curved surfaces and irregular architectural forms. Its hydrophilic self-cleaning technology is designed to help maintain façade appearance while providing long-term surface protection.
The coating is certified to the international AAMA 2605 weatherability standard. According to the company, it can be incorporated without changes to existing customer coating lines or restrictions on color selection or finish texture.
AkzoNobel said reducing the need for manual high-rise cleaning could also lower lifecycle maintenance demands and reduce the water, chemicals and other resources associated with façade cleaning.
Long-term on-site testing was conducted at an office building in the Dongying Economic Development Zone, and the coating has also been used on projects including 16 On An Street in Hong Kong. The company plans to expand the system to additional high-end building applications.
