Co-Binder Improves Deinking in Flexible Packaging

Evonik’s TEGO Res 1100 co-binder has received the 2026 German Packaging Award in the Sustainability category for its role in improving the recyclability of printed flexible packaging.
Developed by Evonik’s Coating Additives business line, TEGO Res 1100 is a co-binder for solvent-based printing inks designed to improve deinking, or the removal of inks from packaging during recycling. Evonik markets the additive globally.
The award-winning entry used a flexible-packaging sample supplied by Constantia Flexibles and printing inks formulated with TEGO Res 1100. Evonik said formulations containing the co-binder improve ink removal during recycling, supporting design-for-recycling requirements for flexible packaging.
The German Packaging Institute independently lists TEGO Res 1100, submitted by Evonik Operations and Constantia Flexibles Group, among its 2026 winners in the Sustainability: Recyclability category. The competition selected 36 winners across 10 categories from more than 200 submissions representing 17 countries.
Evonik said improved deinking can help converters, brand owners and recycling companies respond to evolving recycling requirements, including the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.
The award highlights the growing role of coatings and ink additives in designing flexible packaging for recycling. For formulators, deinking performance is becoming another consideration alongside print quality, adhesion and processing as packaging regulations place greater emphasis on recyclability.
