Asian Paints Starts 150,000-Ton VAE Production
Asian Paints has commenced commercial production of vinyl acetate ethylene emulsion at its manufacturing facility in Dahej, Gujarat. The new VAE operation has installed capacity of 150,000 tons per year, with production intended primarily for captive consumption at Asian Paints’ paint manufacturing facilities. The company said construction of the associated vinyl acetate monomer manufacturing facility and ethylene storage and handling infrastructure remains underway.
The project is part of Asian Paints’ broader backward-integration program. The company previously outlined plans for 150,000 tons/year of VAE and 100,000 tons/year of VAM capacity, identifying VAE as a material intended to support its coatings business.
This is direct new raw-material capacity inside one of the world’s largest coatings manufacturers. Rather than buying all of this material externally, Asian Paints is bringing a significant paint input into its own manufacturing network, making the development relevant to coatings supply strategy, manufacturing economics and vertical integration.
